How do I show my wallet from the command line?

1

Overview

Note: This tutorial contains instructions for Windows, Mac and Linux users. Skip over steps that do not apply to you.

In this tutorial, we show you how to download the Monero wallet and Monero daemon. The Monero wallet is used to securely store your Monero, and is what you will use to check your Monero balance and send and receive Monero. The job of the Monero daemon is to communicate with the network to notify you of new transactions.

Warning: If you are booting to a Pendrive or LiveCD, you will not have any hard drive storage available to you, so this tutorial will not work unless you have at least 16GB of RAM available for storage of the blockchain. To clarify, this RAM requirement ONLY applies to Pendrive or LiveCD installations and not to the majority of people with regularly installed operating systems. If you don't have this much RAM in your laptop, this tutorial will show you how to create a Monero wallet on a Live CD booted machine which...

Overview

Before you begin: Follow the

tutorial for setting up a command line Monero wallet

, and the run the monero-wallet-cli program.

Checking your balance

[wallet 47CL7F]: Balance: 0.400000000000, unlocked balance: 0.400000000000

The balance command shows you your Monero balance. In the example above, the wallet contains 0.4 Monero. If a payment was only recently received, it will around 20 minutes for that payment to become "unlocked" before you can consider it fully confirmed as received. Until it becomes unlocked, you cannot spend recently received Monero.

Important: Make sure your Monero daemon is running and successfully syncing with the network. Your Monero wallet will not be able to see its balance and any new payments received unless the Monero daemon is correctly synced to the network.

How does Electrum work?¶

Electrum’s focus is speed, with low resource usage and simplifying Bitcoin. Startup times are instant because it operates in conjunction with high-performance servers that handle the most complicated parts of the Bitcoin system.

Does Electrum trust servers?¶

Not really; the Electrum client never sends private keys to the servers. In addition, it verifies the information reported by servers, using a technique called Simple Payment Verification

What is the Seed?¶

The seed is a random phrase that is used to generate your private keys.

Example:

constant forest adore false green weave stop guy fur freeze giggle clock

Your wallet can be entirely recovered from its seed. For this, select the “restore wallet” option in the startup.

How secure is the seed?¶

The seed phrase created by Electrum has 132 bits of entropy. This means that it provides the same level of security as a Bitcoin private key (of...

If you are in a situation where you have deleted the ethereum directory on your pc, It is sometimes possible to recover the data. Here are the conditions:

All you did was delete the folder "Ethereum" You havn't tried to reinstall ethereum thinking you just fix it You are using a magnetic hard drive and not an ssd You stopped using the computer immediately, or shortly thereafter You didn't run a "defrag" on your pc.

If you think you meet these conditions, then I may be able to help you out. However, in most cases, your hard drive, or your whole computer may need to be sent to me in order to recover it.

If you have a desktop computer, then just sending the harddrive will suffice.
If you have a laptop or a macbook, you may need to send the whole device to avoid damaging your device.

Recovering a Password is the most difficult/impossible with current technology. However in the future the computing power may become available to brute force your password. So...

Overview

This tutorial illustrates how to build an entirely new class of applications: command line tools that use a little bit of bitcoin to pay a remote server for computation.

We illustrate the class of applications by showing you how to build a simple, bitcoin-payable command line tool called geocode-client. The tool takes in an address string like "1600 Pennsylvania Avenue" as an argument. Behind the scenes, it then pays a bit of mined bitcoin to a geocode API server hosted using 21 to map this string to a latitude and longitude.

Why is this interesting? It essentially lays the groundwork for a new kind of Linux distribution, one that bundles dozens or hundreds of these tools and that is thereby dependent on the presence of bitcoin as the next fundamental system resource alongside RAM and disk space. It also means that the developers who build these new bitcoin-payable command line apps could now actually monetize every single invocation of their tools,...

nce you’re ready to get started with Monero, the first thing to do is get a wallet. Similar to wallets in the real world, you need a digital wallet to store your digital Monero. And like physical cash, there are a few different options for how Monero can be stored.

You may keep a small amount of Monero in a web wallet that is easy to access, like having money in your back pocket. You might also keep the bulk of your Monero in a wallet on your home computer that is more secure, like stashing money in a safe.

Sending and receiving Monero

Like a bank account, every Monero wallet has a balance (eg: 43.5). What’s interesting about Monero is the way that funds are added to and subtracted from that balance. Your wallet’s address is how you to receive funds from other people. It looks like a long string of 95 numbers and letters. Here’s a real Monero...

A cool function of Bitcoin not mentioned in introductions is its message signing and verification feature. I'll use the Satoshi client on a Mac as the example but the same functions are available in the wallet at blockchain.info and in any decent Bitcoin client.

Suppose you have a dispute with a vendor you paid in bitcoin. They say you didn't pay them the correct amount or they didn't get paid at all. So you show them the record of the transaction.

Great, says the vendor, but how do I know that's your coin?

In the Satoshi client, go to the "Receive Coins" tab. At the bottom, you'll see an option that says, "Sign Message" (you can also go to File > Sign Message). Enter the Bitcoin address that you own that initiated the transaction (that's the address to the left of the green arrow in the transaction record mentioned earlier) into the address form. Write your message and then hit the "Sign Message" button.

The signature generated is unique to the address...

This article has moved to our new Help Center and will no longer be updated on this page. Please see the Help Center for the newest version.

These instructions presume that you have already created an account. An account cannot be created from the command line, but once created, you can set up additional devices from the command line.

To create or reinstall a device, run SpiderOakONE with the --setup option. The easiest way to do this is SpiderOakONE --setup=- (notice the trailing dash) which tells SpiderOakONE to create a new device by prompting you interactively for setup parameters.

The exact command you will give depends upon your operating system:

Windows: cmd /c ""C:\Program Files\SpiderOakONE\SpiderOakONE.exe" --setup=-" Notice the nested quote marks. Mac: /Applications/SpiderOakONE.app/Contents/MacOS/SpiderOakONE --setup=- Linux: SpiderOakONE --setup=-

When run this way, the process looks like this:

Accounts¶

Accounts play a central role in Ethereum. There are two types of accounts: externally owned accounts (EOAs) and contract accounts. Here we focus on externally owned accounts, which will be referred to simply as accounts. Contract accounts will be referred to as contracts and are discussed in detail in Contracts. This generic notion of account subsuming both externally owned accounts and contracts is justified in that these entities are so called state objects. These entities have a state: accounts have balance and contracts have both balance and contract storage. The state of all accounts is the state of the Ethereum network which is updated with every block and which the network really needs to reach a consensus about. Accounts are essential for users to interact with the Ethereum blockchain via transactions.

If we restrict Ethereum to only externally owned accounts and allow only transactions between them, we arrive at an “altcoin” system that is less...

1776 - During the American Revolution, the Continental brig, Reprisal, commanded by Capt. Lambert Wickes, transports the newly appointed commercial and naval agent, William Bingham, to Martinique. While en route, the British sloop-of-war, HMS Shark, approaches the brig at the entrance to St. Pierre Harbor. After a sharp encounter and inconclusive action, HMS Shark withdraws and Reprisal enters port.

1862 - During the Civil War, the side-wheel steamer, USS Yankee, commanded by William Gibson, and the side-wheel tug, USS Satellite, commanded by Master Amos Foster, capture schooner J.W. Sturges in Chippoak Creek, Va.

1917 - Construction of the Naval Aircraft Factory, Philadelphia is ordered to produce enough aircraft for Americas entry into World War I.
