Is the mtgoxlive depth chart information accurate?

Charts will provide more information on “zone of confidence”

It is a major challenge – some might say an impossibility – to keep all thousand U.S. nautical charts up to date. But exactly how out of date is the chart data? Chart users will get a better idea now that Coast Survey is gradually rolling out a new chart feature called the zone of confidence, or “ZOC” box. It will replace the source diagram that is currently on large-scale charts. Source diagrams, and now the improved ZOC, help mariners assess hydrographic survey data and the associated level of risk to navigate in a particular area.

The first charts to show the new ZOC box are 18622, 18682, 18754, and 11328. They were released on April 7.

Both source diagrams and ZOC diagrams consist of a graphic representation of the extents of hydrographic surveys within the chart and accompanying table of related survey quality categories. Where the old source diagrams were based on inexact and sometimes...

Fantasy Football Definition of "Depth Chart"

Looking at an accurate NFL "depth chart" is important just before a fantasy football draft, because NFL depth charts remain fluid throughout the preseason. In fact, teams are purposefully deceptive about their depth charts sometimes, hoping to spring a surprise on their Week 1 NFL opponent. no longer posts preseason team depth charts until after final cuts are made, because they can't stand by the accuracy of these depth charts. So having the right information on NFL starters and backups is a big advantage in a fantasy football draft.

Depth Chart and Fantasy Drafts

The later a fantasy football draft takes place, the more accurate your depth chart information is going to be. I would recommend having your fantasy drafts after Week 3 of the NFL Preseason at the very least, because that's considered the dress rehearsal for the NFL regular season. Though the starting lineups and who plays in the first half of...

Look at Chart 3, Under the title there is some important information that is explained below.

These are metric charts. Most charts are now, but you will still find some Imperial ones in use. Imperial charts have depths in fathoms and feet (a fathom is 6 feet, about 2 metres). These charts are easily identified, as they are in black and white, not coloured like the metric ones.

Take care with Stanford's charts of the Caribbean, as on some, the depths are metric and others are in imperial units. Because both types look similar, it is easy to miss the change when you move from one chart to the next.

SCALE 1:100,000 at lat 46°.

Chart scales vary dependent upon the use they will be put to. A vessel should carry a selection of charts, which cover a variety of scales. This should ensure there are large-scale charts for entering harbour and pilotage, medium scale charts for navigating on and small-scale charts, which...

How can you assess if a chart you are using is reliable?
Mike Prince, Director of Charting, Australian Hydrographic Service, tackles this and other related issues.
Mike Prince is the Director of Charting within the Australian Hydrographic Service.
He is a hydrographic surveyor by profession, as well as a former naval officer with experience as a Commanding Officer and Navigating Officer.
He still sails when time permits.

How much faith can be placed in charts?
Unfortunately, the answer is quite complex — far more complex than simply saying one chart is accurate while another is not.
However, having the necessary skills should be essential for any mariner venturing into unfamiliar waters.

Reliability versus confidence

All charts, whether paper or electronic, contain data that varies in quality due to the age and accuracy of individual surveys.
In general, remote areas away from shipping routes tend to...

Mt. Gox publishes live data which is available at The chart includes the current market price as well as a depth chart of existing bid and ask prices, which I assume is compiled from the order book of each account with the exchange. However, orders are allowed to be placed on Mt. Gox without having available funds in ones account to actually make a trade. If the depth chart reflects these unfunded orders, they would make the chart steeper than it should be. Of course, the depth chart may also not reflect trades which people have the funds and intention to make but haven't yet placed in the order book. In sum, does the mtgoxlive depth chart reflect unfunded orders, and in any event, how useful, accurate, or predictive is...

New Candlewood Lake Depth Chart Available at DEP Store

DEP Store is offering a new Candlewood Lake depth chart, with more accurate information on the depth of the lake’s waters, for the 2006 fishing and boating season.

Candlewood Lake is the largest lake in Connecticut. It is eleven miles long and two miles wide at its widest point, resulting in 60 miles of shoreline and approximately 5,420 acres of surface area. Candlewood is located within the communities of Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford, and Sherman and was created in 1929 by the impoundment of the Rocky River near its confluence with the Housatonic. The average depth is 30 feet and the maximum depth is 85 feet.

Previous charts of Candlewood Lake used the topography of the land surface before it was inundated. Those old land surface maps dated back several decades and made use of less exacting mapping equipment than is available today. A different technique –...

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh doesn't consider a weekly depth chart any kind of laughing matter. But don't expect the Wolverines to make their two-deep available for public consumption any time soon.

After Colorado, this week's opponent for No. 4 Michigan, released a fictional depth chart featuring Elmer Fudd at quarterback and Vito Corleone along the defensive line, among other characters, Harbaugh told a local radio show Thursday he wasn't amused even though he believes sharing depth charts is an antiquated practice.

"There's so much written about the team that's on the internet," Harbaugh said on Detroit's 97.1 FM Thursday morning. "For those of us who can or do watch the games, they're all on television now as well. We just felt like modern technology was the most accurate way of knowing what the opponent's depth chart is by looking at the previous week's film. Not relying on another PR director's assessment of what the depth chart...

Here at FanGraphs, we enjoy rolling out cool new things. It’s fun to be able to add stuff that we can all use on a daily basis, and David Appelman has done a great job of building some incredible tools for public consumption. Today, we’re going to introduce you to the newest additions to FanGraphs: Depth Charts and a dedicated Standings page. We’re rolling them out together because they actually go hand in hand.

We’ll start with the standings page, because that’s what you’ll see first when you visit the new section of the site. The standings table is broken into three sections: Year to Date, Projected Rest of Season, and Projected Full Season.

Year to Date presents the data you’d expect to find on a standings page, including games played, wins, losses, winning percentage, run differential, runs scored per game, and runs allowed per game. This is the basic information about what has already happened, and gives you an overview of how each team has performed in games...

When you read one of our publications, you can be sure that it has not been slanted for anyone's benefit, nor do we speak overtly or covertly for any agent as do some others who offer draft opinions. While we have received many accolades from current and former NFL representatives for the quality of our work over the years, we are in nobody's pocket. We are beholden to...
