Mining with one client on multiple mining pool

Now that you have Bitcoin mining hardware, your next step is to join a Bitcoin mining pool.

What is a Mining Pool?

Mining pools are groups of cooperating miners who agree to share block rewards in proportion to their contributed mining hash power.

While mining pools are desirable to the average miner as they smooth out rewards and make them more predictable, they unfortunately concentrate power to the mining pool’s owner.

Miners can, however, choose to redirect their hashing power to a different mining pool at anytime.

Pool Concentration in China

Before we get into the best mining pools to join, it’s important to note that most mining pools are in China. Many only have Chinese websites and support. Mining centralization in China is one of Bitcoin’s biggest issues at the moment.

There are about 20 major mining pools. Broken down by the percent of hash power controlled by a pool, and the location of that pool’s company, we estimate...

AlphaPool is a new mining pool for mining Ethereum’s Ether (ETH) coins that has just been launched today, bringing the total number of active pools to 5. While it is never a bad thing to have a choice between multiple mining pools, a few days ago there was just one – Ethpool and when it stopped accepting new miners people had to go solo until new pools started appearing. We are still yet to see someone release open source code for a mining pool for Ethereum however. But back to AlphaPool, it promises some nice things to miners, that is why competition is good, no transaction fee and 0% pool fee for the first week then just 1%, there is also no mention of a minimum amount of Ether to be mined before a payout. One drawback however, there is no option for users to set their miner’s hashrate (difficulty) through the miner which can make it pointless for low hashrate miners to try mining at the pool as they may not be able to get much shares solved and submitted. Since this is a brand...

Ethereum mining is best done by joining a mining pool so that there is a steady stream of Ether's into your wallet and in this guide we will show you a step by step process to do just this. In our "How to Mine Ethereum on a Windows PC" we showed you how to install all the software to get your computer mining with its graphics card and failing that, with its CPU. However this isn't the whole process, as when you mine on your own the chance of finding a block is incredibly small considering the total amount of hashing power in the network - so the best option is to join a mining pool to smooth the volatility of returns - you can read about the benefits of joining a bitcoin or ethereum mining pool here.

1 - Making sure you have an Address

Step 1: If you have gone through our guide here on how to set up your computer to mine ethereum you are most of the way there - in fact all you need is an address which you can get from the EthDev wallet - which is basically a nice...

Bitmain’s BTC.com, the free bitcoin block explorer, analytics tool and bitcoin wallet, has launched an open-source bitcoin mining pool and is charging no mining fee until 2017.

With the launch of this open-source mining pool, the BTC.com team hopes to set new technical standards for mining pools and remove barriers that limit the efficiency or ease of mining pools.

To ensure stability and efficiency, the BTC.com mining pool has been tested for upto 180,000 miners (or workers) by using software simulators that replicate the load of real workers. If each worker is assumed to have the hashrate of an Antminer S9, that would make the total hashrate of this simulation more than that of the entire bitcoin network.

The BTC.com pool has many firsts for any mining pool:

A “PoolWatcher” function to “listen” to other mining pools for newfound blocks and starts mining at the next height after a block has been found on any pool. This reduces the number of orphaned...

Mining is the only one way to create bitcoins out of your equipment’s productivity. People all around the globe join bitcoin mining pools desiring to prove the system’s transactions and solve a block. They do it together because nowadays it’s absolutely impossible to earn anything using your own computer and mining rigs. Even if you have lots of ASIC chips and extremely low prices for energy it’s unlikely you would get a real profit out of that deal. That’s why people join pools and mine collaboratively. Of course, they do not get the full prize of 25 coins when the block is solved. The reward is shared between all miners and users who helped with calculations by their computing capacity. Sometimes the reward is really slow when a lot of miners join the pool. Anyway such profit is going to be stable in spite of being low. At least you won’t have to wait about a thousand years to get block solved using you own PC and Graphic Processing Unit for your favorite game.

Tutorial on merged mining Litecoin / Dogecoin and other Scrypt Coins

Not to be confused with multipool mining, which switches to a more profitable coin automatically, merged mining lets you send hashes to multiple blockchains. That would mean that while mining Litecoin or Dogecoin, you would be able to mine other cryptocurrencies at the same time, as you no longer need to choose between mining one or the other coin. Mining would be more profitable by mining a primary coin and other secondary coins without affecting your maximum hashrate on the primary coin, and power consumption remains the same.

Merged Mining

Merged mining works like this, your generated hashes that could be the solution to the current block will be sent to two or more different blockchains to see if they are the solution. Since every blockchain which represents a coin would have a different solution, you are increasing your chances of solving a block by sending the hash to multiple...

Bitcoin Pooled Mining

This was the location of the first public bitcoin mining pool. I've left the page here with the original information for historical purposes as the pool no longer operates.

Historical Pool Information

Update 2010-12-17:Sadly so many people have left the pool already it'll now take too long to generate a block. I've shut the server down. You might like to try some of the other pools and cooperative mining systems that are coming online.

Update 2010-12-15:Unfortunately the VPS hosting company I used has started killing the server occasionally due to high CPU usage. As a result I'll be shutting the pool server down after we successfully generate the next block. A user on the bitcoin forums has set up an alternate server to take over on IP address 91.121.29.91. Once I close the server down you may like to switch to that. See this thread for details.

Update 2010-12-14:Important Note for MyBitcoin.com users. Do not use a MyBitcoin...

No "FOR SALE" posts. Feel free to hawk your wares in our sister subreddit /r/BitMarket - this means no goup buys as well. As common as it is in Bitcoin Mining, it is far to risky to be carried out over reddit.

No verbal abuse. If you don't have anything nice to say, it's best not to say anything at all. Remember, we were all newbies once. Mining isn't exactly a trivial venture.

No Referral Links. No Amazon/eBay referral links. No mining pool referral links. No mining contract referral links. No referral links, period.

No Promoting New Alt Coins. If there is a new alt coin out, this is not the place to discuss or promote it. If you have questions about mining that alt coin, feel free to ask away!

No short-URLs. Nobody should have to trust you before clicking on a link. URL-shortener services serve no use on Reddit as there is nothing restricting the size of your comment string.

One of the first questions that anyone interested in mining cryptocurrencies faces is whether to mine solo or join a 'pool'. There are a multitude of reasons both for and against mining pools. However, if the hash rate distribution across the bitcoin network is anything to go by (and it is) then most miners are opting to join a pool. Here’s what you need to know.

Pros and cons

If you’re deciding whether to join a mining pool or not, it can be helpful to think of it like a lottery syndicate – the pros and cons are exactly the same. Going solo means you won’t have to share the reward, but your odds of getting a reward are significantly decreased. Although a pool has a much larger chance of solving a block and winning the reward, that reward will be split between all the pool members.

Therefore, joining a pool creates a steady stream of income, even if each payment is modest compared to the full block reward (which currently...

While it is now considered too late for hobbyists without expensive ASIC processors to start mining bitcoins, many of the alternative digital currencies are still well suited for mining on your home PC.

In this guide, we’ll take you through all you need to know to start digging up a few litecoins, feathercoins or dogecoins without any costly extra equipment.

For the most part, cryptocurrencies employ either SHA-256 or scrypt as their proof-of-work hashing algorithm, but many of the newer currencies have opted for scrypt.

Scrypt tends to be the more memory intensive of the two – however, home PCs with reasonably powerful graphics cards can still mine those cryptocurrencies quite effectively, as there are no dedicated ASICs to compete with – yet.

Perhaps surprisingly, it’s still possible to use just your computer’s CPU to mine some of the digital currencies. This holds true, even if you have only a laptop with integrated graphics; though this may not prove...
