Which bitcoin script forms should be detected when tracking wallet balance?

These are the scriptPubKey's that are standard, arranged in order of popularity:

P2PKH (Pay to public key hash)

P2SH (Pay to script hash)

P2PK (Pay to public key)

This is now mostly unused, except by miners, but there are still unspent outputs in the form:

Segregated witness outputs (only implement this after miners have accepted segwit, or you may lose money)

There are two ways of signaling that a scriptPubKey should be interpreted as a segregated witness program:

Native witness program

The version byte must be equal to or less than 16.

P2SH wrapped witness program

The scriptSig must have exactly one item. That item is interpreted as a witness program, as above.

Once you extract the witness program, you must match it to one of the witness program types:

This is hashed...

Importing "watch only" addresses (cold storage), creating a wallet in pruned mode and a pruned blockchain and then importing the private key to go from cold to hot storage works just fine in bitcoin-qt (after a restart).

However, when importing "watch only" addresses AFTER creating the blockchain the balances are not visible and require to download the full blockchain again (95 GB).

As far as I understand it this is not necessary, as the balances (not the history) can be obtained from the UTXO set and a new download is not necessary. I made this an issue on Github (and just got a positive feedback).

A possible use case: a user downloads (or gets it from a usb) a 2.5 GB pruned blockchain, checks it (maybe some options or software needs to be developed) and creates a wallet and imports his own addresses and/or private keys WITHOUT HAVING TO CREATE THE PRUNED BLOCHCHAIN HIMSELF, WHICH IS VITAL IN ORDER TO SCALE BITCOIN.

At the moment...

NEW YORK (InsideBitcoins) — Hardware wallets have been touted as the perfect solution when it comes to creating a useful combination of security and convenience for bitcoin users. Although the general public likes to believe that their files and passwords are secure on their home computers, the reality of online security is nowhere near that false hope. As we’ve seen in the past, users who are not using strong passwords, 2-factor authentication, and other security measures tend to only figure out the error of their ways when it’s already too late.

Hardware wallets allow users to store sensitive information on separate devices, which offers greater security in a situation where their computer has become infected with malware. Most of the bitcoin community knows about the TREZOR, but the Ledger Wallet Nano is a relatively new offering that enables...

If I am using Blockchain.info API, because blockchain provide feature like create wallet, send bitcoin, generate address..etc below here the url which I used :

Blockchain.info API

I have registered and also get api_code, with the help of code I Have created multiple wallet successfully.

Create Wallet :

$Blockchain = new \Blockchain\Blockchain($api_code); $Blockchain->setServiceUrl("http://localhost:3000"); $wallet = $Blockchain->Create->create($password);

Like Wallet 1,wallet 2 and now I have transferred 5000bits from blockchain.info panel to wallet 1 and now I try to send bits from wallet 1 to wallet 2 using below code :

$Blockchain = new \Blockchain\Blockchain($api_code); $Blockchain->setServiceUrl("http://localhost:3000"); $Blockchain->Wallet->credentials($wallet1_id, $wallert1_password); $response = $Blockchain->Wallet->send($to_address, $amount);

To_address is wallet2 default address which...

Your Balance

You Wallet always shows your current balance in bitcoins and your local currency, dollars for example.

Where is the bitcoin balance maintained?

When you buy bitcoin it automatically goes to your Paxful wallet. We hold the bitcoins for you but you can send them to your own wallet on your phone or computer anytime. We recommend you install a separate wallet on your phone, send your bitcoins to it from Paxful and then use your phone wallet to spend all your bitcoin. This is more secure for you as you hold and control your own bitcoin.

Why is my Wallet Balance negative

When you send bitcoin to someone there is a small fee of a few cents that goes to the bitcoin network, the more you pay the faster it travels. This fee does not go to Paxful but to the bitcoin “miners” that maintain the network and make bitcoin possible.

Paxful does not subtract this fee from the bitcoin you send to make certain you are sending exactly what you...

If you want to use Bitcoin, one of the first decisions that you will have to make is which wallet you will be using to store your Bitcoin and make transactions. As Bitcoin is an electronic currency not controlled by a central authority, it allows any developer to create a wallet.

It is important to understand that a Bitcoin wallet doesn’t actually store the coins themselves. Actually, the coins are stored on the blockchain, a giant public ledger of every Bitcoin transaction in history. A wallet allows you to access your coins using private and public keys. The public key is used to receive Bitcoins and can be published anywhere without security concern. The private key is used to send coins, and like a password must be guarded to protect your wallet’s security. Because all of the transactions are actually stored on the blockchain rather than inside the wallet itself, you can access your coins from many different wallets, as long as you have the public and private keys.

With some cryptography fundamentals and serialization practice under your belt, you should be more comfortable as we approach Bitcoin transactions. Well, scripts are the last step in the path. Here I’ll give an overview of their role in transaction processing.

How bitcoins move

It’s a common belief that bitcoins move from an address to another. In fact, they move through transaction outputs, whereas mining is the only special case in which bitcoins are created out of thin air. Outputs are the real endpoints holding money in the blockchain. However, when reused to send the money they hold to someone else, outputs become inputs to other transactions.

The transaction tree

Look at the picture below (courtesy of bitcoin.org) and notice how previous transaction outputs convert to spendable transaction inputs. This forms a deep tree of value transfers where each node represents a transaction. Whenever a transaction output is...

The Blockchain wallet will generate a unique bitcoin address each time you want to receive funds. This enhances the privacy of your wallet balance, and transaction history. To quickly generate and copy a bitcoin address to your clipboard simply click on the clipboard to the right of Request.

You can find imported addresses via Settings -> Addresses -> Imported Addresses. Read more about managing your addresses here.

To request a bitcoin address for receiving funds simply press Request at the top of your wallet. The following will be displayed:

If you only need to share the bitcoin address with another user then simply press Copy to the right of the bitcoin address displayed, and this address will be copied to your clipboard. If you have multiple fund categories set up within your wallet, then you can choose which one you would like to receive the funds to from the Receive To: drop down menu.

You can also generate a QR code...

BitRef will help you view the current balance of any Bitcoin address. You need only a device with the Internet and a valid Bitcoin address string. This is a safe service because it uses only public data; there is no need for login and password.

It is possible to monitor many Bitcoin addresses with one request. Just separate the different addresses with a "+" (plus) sign in the address field or in the URL. This way you can enter all your wallet addresses and monitor the entire wallet.

The tool shows the last 50 transactions for every address (or combination of addresses). It shows the date, amount and current balance for every transaction. You can also check the number of confirmations by keeping the mouse pointer over each transaction.

We have a browser extension for Chrome, Firefox and Opera. With the extension you can check Bitcoin address balance by just typing: "btc {space} bitcoin_address" in browser's address bar. Fast and easy.

Learn how to use the wallet class and craft custom transactions with it.

The Wallet class is one of the most important classes in bitcoinj. It stores keys and the transactions that assign value to/from those keys. It lets you create new transactions which spend the previously stored transactions outputs, and it notifies you when the contents of the wallet have changed.

You’ll need to learn how to use the Wallet to build many kinds of apps.

This article assumes you’ve read Satoshi’s white paper and the WorkingWithTransactions article.

For optimal operation the wallet needs to be connected to a BlockChain and a Peer or PeerGroup. The block chain can be passed a Wallet in its constructor. It will send the wallet blocks as they are received so the wallet can find and extract relevant transactions, that is, transactions which send or receive coins to keys stored within it. The Peer/Group will send the wallet transactions...

Bitcoin uses a scripting system for transactions. Forth-like, Script is simple, stack-based, and processed from left to right. It is purposefully not Turing-complete, with no loops.

A script is essentially a list of instructions recorded with each transaction that describe how the next person wanting to spend the Bitcoins being transferred can gain access to them. The script for a typical Bitcoin transfer to destination Bitcoin address D simply encumbers future spending of the bitcoins with two things: the spender must provide

a public key that, when hashed, yields destination address D embedded in the script, and a signature to show evidence of the private key corresponding to the public key just provided.

Scripting provides the flexibility to change the parameters of what's needed to spend transferred Bitcoins. For example, the scripting system could be used to require two private keys, or a combination of several, or even no keys at all.

A transaction is...

Bitcoin is a digital currency produced and used by millions of people around the globe. It was first proposed by a software developer called Satoshi Nakamoto. Bitcoin is an independent, digital currency that can be used for online transactions. Physically, bitcoins don’t exist, they’re all stored electronically and out of control or influence from high street banks and governments. The benefits are stability, anonymity and avoidance of price manipulations – unlike real money.

Keeping track of Bitcoin prices in real-time, or indeed the latest Buy & Sell transactions that are available as well as Bitcoin mining information, can easily be achieved: Simply use any of the PHP scripts featured in this article to receive a plethora of Bitcoin statistical information.

The Bitcoin Toolbox

You can easily create a website offering a wide range of tools and data about Bitcoin with The Bitcoin Toolbox. It is customizable in various ways via a configuration file. The script...
